From talk to action – delivering sustainability solutions
Sustainability is no longer a ‘nice to have’; it’s become a core business goal, and one that’s been taken to heart by Kemtek principal HP Indigo. They’ve embraced the fact that as a responsible global company, they need to put sustainability at the heart of everything they do. To make that happen, they’re developing innovative technology and approaches that have the potential to make a real difference.

Setting goals – and meeting them
HP Indigo has taken a two-pronged approach to sustainability and set goals for making their own business operations greener, as well as for helping their customers to do the same.
HP Indigo – as part of the overall HP corporation – is on track to achieve carbon neutrality and zero waste in all their operations within the next 3 years. Beyond that, they have committed to enabling the circular economy by using recycled and recyclable materials in their products and especially in their packaging.

The power of print to make a difference
Digital printing has well-established credentials, not least the fact that there is no need to use plates and chemicals, and volumes of waste can be radically reduced. On-demand digital printing has been proven to reduce set-up waste by up to 80%, with reductions in packaging waste and carbon emissions from transport also a consequence of the lack of plates and cylinders.
All HP Indigo digital printing presses are compatible with an increasingly wide array of sustainable media. This recognises the fact that the ecological impact of printing continues beyond the printshop – especially in the case of packaging.
Once a product has been purchased and consumed, it must be disposed of – and by enabling the use of recyclable, biodegradable and even compostable media, HP Indigo is making it easier for end users (both companies and consumers) to make better choices, and contribute to the wider adoption of the circular economy.
The move towards sustainability
Of course, HP Indigo is not the only major company that has committed to a greener future. As a print solutions provider, HP Indigo is helping other corporations to meet and exceed their own sustainability solutions, including ambitious targets set by leading consumer-facing brands such as Nestle, Tesco and P&G.
HP Indigo has been able to leverage their expertise in efficient, short-run printing to deliver against – and indeed accelerate – brand sustainability goals. Through the medium of packaging, they can also assist brands with awareness and behavioural change by communicating key messages to consumers.

Making printing presses greener
In addition to enabling the circular economy, HP Indigo is also actively participating in it. They have looked at every aspect of their own operations and the lifecycle of each digital printing press to identify and implement sustainability improvements.
Their innovations have included certified CO2-neutral manufacturing, streamlined designs, take-back programmes to enable recycling and repurposing of parts. All HP Indigo digital printing presses use safe, non-toxic inks to achieve their exceptional colour register and precision.

Green to the heart
In essence, HP Indigo’s sustainability drive – which Kemtek fully supports and is also invested in – is all about reducing the impact of manufacturing, using and ultimately disposing of digital printing presses.
At the same time, they are empowering brands to achieve their own sustainability goals through helping them to reduce waste and offer their products to consumers in recyclable and reusable packaging.
They describe themselves as ‘sustainability enablers in print’ and we’re proud to count this forward-looking digital printing enterprise amongst our principals.
