The Kemtek Imaging Systems team have recently returned from a highly successful visit to Cape Town, where the Kemtek stand was one of the stars of the show at Propak Cape 2017. We managed to catch up with Karen Stretch, Marketing Manager of Kemtek to ask her about her mission to the Western Cape, and why Propak is a major date in the Kemtek calendar.
Karen, welcome back and congratulations on a brilliant Propak Cape 2017. Can you tell us a bit more about the event?
Propak Cape is the innovative packaging solutions trade expo for the Western Cape. It’s the place to be if you’re a supplier or customer involved in packaging, food processing, plastics, printing, labelling and wine or olive oil production. It’s also the ideal way to make business connections – all set against the backdrop of the beautiful city of Cape Town.
Why is Propak so important to Kemtek?
Propak has always been a must-attend event for Kemtek. Propak Cape 2017 had an incredible 6 000+ visitors in just 3 days, not to mention so many industry experts and specialist suppliers under one roof. It’s the complete package – excuse the pun!
Kemtek won the visitors’ vote for best stand – how did you create a unique experience?
We wanted our stand to reflect everything that’s special about Kemtek as a company. We used a unique and eye-catching design to stand out from the crowd, and by showcasing all our divisions (Print, 3D Print, Auto Identification and Labelling) and relevant products in a striking way, we encouraged conversations between stand visitors and our product specialists. The free-flowing entry and exit, plus our personable stand team, gave visitors the time they needed to get answers to all their questions, no matter how technical.
We’re sorry that we missed the Kemtek cocktail event, and the naughty or nice boxes that everyone was talking about…
Yes, it was a fun evening – there was a great mix of existing and (we hope) future customers, contributing to a relaxed and informal ambience. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to show off the capabilities of one of our newest products – the HP Indigo SmartStream Mosaic digital software package, which we used to create individual labels for our naughty and nice treat boxes, all from one master file.
What were the highlights for you at Propak Cape 2017?
Digital print is such an important part of our business, and this was a wonderful chance to explore the capabilities of the HP with converters, designers and brand owners in a less-pressured environment. Propak also gave our other divisions – Auto ID, Labelling, Conventional and Packaging – opportunities to acquire new contacts and reconnect with existing channel partners and packaging customers.
What talks stood out for you, and what insights did you gain from them?
Wendy McLoughlin (Business Development Manager, Kemtek Imaging Systems) and Riki Tzirin (Senior Account Manager, Indigo Packaging) participated in the conference programme, discussing how brands can make the most of digital print when it comes to personalised and customised labels and packaging. Kemtek is committed to sharing knowledge on these exciting developments.
What can we expect from Kemtek in 2018?
We’ll be hitting the ground running with our Kemtek Digital Open House at the end of January, plus visiting seven cities nationwide with our Auto ID Reseller Roadshow in February. And of course, we’ll be counting down to Propak Cape 2020 – the 20th anniversary edition of the show!
