Celebrating Crafting Excellence with Brother ScanNCut

We asked you to show us your creativity – and you did!

After the huge response to our original Brother ScanNCut competition in 2020, we were excited to run this competition again this year, with even more Brother prizes up for grabs. This year, we had even more entries and once again the quality extremely high – thank you to everyone who took the time to share their crafting projects with us!

Luckily for us, crafting is a hobby that attracts patient people, and we’re grateful to everyone who has had to wait an extra week to find out if their entry was chosen to be a prize winner. After some serious deliberation, we’re ready to announce the winners of the 2021 Brother ScanNCut competition!

African Inspired

We challenged you to create craft projects that were African Inspired – projects that drew on Africa’s rich heritage of storytelling, incredible landscapes, diverse people and amazing wildlife. We’re pleased to report that you didn’t disappoint!

The competition called for creativity, originality, colour and utility, and to make it even more inclusive, we added extra categories. Crafters who wanted to win the awesome Brother prizes could enter a crafting project created on a Brother ScanNCut or similar competitor cutting machine or created entirely by hand. We were also looking for entries from Brother ScanNCut SDX1200 dealers.

And the winners are…

So without further ado, let’s get right to it, beginning with Category 1 – handcrafters who entered without using a specialised crafting cutter.

Winner of the fourth prize – a Brother ScanNCut voucher worth R1 000 – was Lizelle Blair with her vibrant, colourful Ndlovu elephant design, which could easily be brought to life with a Brother ScanNCut.

In third place, and the winner of a R2 000 ScanNCut voucher, was Kim Baker whose creative, multi-textured Dad birthday card really impressed the judges.

Moving on to second place, Patience Damba from East London scooped the Brother ScanNCut CM-900. Our judges loved her bright handbag and the way it really showed how Africa can inspire crafting excellence.

In the end, there could only be one winner in this category: congratulations to Priscilla Keyser from the Eastern Cape for being our 2021 handcrafting champion! The Africa Inspired theme was interpreted in an original collage with multiple textures – perfect for crafting! Enjoy your Brother ScanNCut SDX1200 – we can’t wait to see what you make with it!

Making the most of the machines

Of course, some of our entrants already had access to crafting machines like the Brother ScanNCut, and here again the standard was exceptionally high.

In fourth place, and also collecting a R1 000 ScanNCut voucher was Glenda Osmundsen with her delightful Born to be Wild party kit.

She was pipped at the post into by 3rd placed Lindsay de Valle who used her ScanNCut crafting machine to create a wonderful embossed elephant in a frame – another entry that really caught the judges’ eyes.

The new Brother ScanNCut CM-900 goes to Karine Hiestermann – we loved her multilayer lion for its incredible detail!

First prize in this category went to Nancy Botes from KwaZulu-Natal who created a beautifully layered elephant scene in a lightbox – the judges felt that of all the superb entries we received, this was the one that best captured the spirit of the original challenge and spoke to being African Inspired.

A big thank you to the Brother dealers

Brother ScanNCut dealers have played a huge role in promoting the popularity of crafting in recent years, and have helped introduce thousands of people to the pleasure and satisfaction of crafting.

We know that our dealers aren’t just wonderful advocates for crafting – they are also crafters in their own right, as the ocean blue frame winning entry by Irene van Heerden from the Free State shows. What better prize then than a Brother ScanNCut SDX1200 with accessory kit.

And not forgetting our runner-up, Maryanne Shaw, who showed her expertise with our wonderful ScanNNcut accessories on a colourful t-shirt design.

Quantity and quality

Last but not least, the bonus prize for most entries via the winning dealer goes to the team at DHS Sewing, Polokwane – congratulations, and enjoy your Brother PT-D210 labelling machine and tapes.

Thank you again to all our entrants, and to our winners – enjoying getting even craftier and more creative!
